We had another one of these arrive on behalf of a client this morning – which was quite funny as they had just received a report showing where they are on Google and Bing. Bit of a fail on behalf of “not ranking on any search engines” then.
Unfortunately some people will fall for these spam tactics and contact the company concerned, probably to get ripped off in the process. An ethical (and legit) SEO company would never send out an email like that.
So what should you do if you get one? Firstly check their website – does their website even work? Unsurprisingly the one received didn’t so wasn’t even worth looking to see what their level of SEO skill was.
Next, check if they’ve made any specific mention of issues on your site. Have they said your Page Title could be better if you do X or is it a generic “we looked at your website and it’s rubbish” comment.
If it’s generic then the next step ought to be the Delete button as they probably haven’t looked at your site…and are just want to help take your money than help your rankings.
